Kiev’s forces have conducted drone strikes on multiple civilian targets across Belgorod Region, governor Vyacheslav Gladkov says
Russia’s Belgorod Region on Monday came under a fresh series of Ukrainian drone attacks, with multiple residential homes and other civilian facilities damaged and several people injured, according to local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
The Shebekino district, which immediately borders Ukraine, sustained multiple strikes, with two children injured in “aerial strikes” in the village of Nikolskoye. Gladkov was relaying information on his Telegram channel, and also shared a photo of a massive crater left by an unspecified projectile.
“One boy got shrapnel wounds to his leg and face, the second one has superficial shrapnel wounds to his chest, forearm and leg. They are taken by ambulance teams to the regional children’s clinical hospital,” he said.
Ten residential homes were damaged in the village during the attack, as well as at least five cars, the governor said. Two other villages located near the city of Belgorod came under Ukrainian attacks, with damage reported on the ground, he added.
The Ukrainian military also targeted a civic building in the town of Grayvoron with a kamikaze drone, Gladkov said in a separate Telegram post. While the building itself sustained only minor damage, with some of its windows shattered and the facade grazed by shrapnel, one of the employees was injured in the attack, suffering concussion, the governor said.
Earlier this month, five children were injured in the town of Shebekino, one of the prime targets for Kiev’s indiscriminate strikes, when a drone dropped an explosive in the courtyard of an apartment building where they were playing. At the time, Gladkov condemned the attack, stating that “there were no military installations at the site and no soldiers, but five boys, one of whom was only eight years old.”
Belgorod, as well as other Russian regions close to the border with Ukraine, have been attacked by Ukrainian forces over the course of the ongoing conflict on an almost daily basis. The indiscriminate artillery, missile and drone strikes have inflicted considerable damage on local civilian infrastructure and property, and has left dozens of locals killed or injured.
